Research activities at the Dept. of Aeronautical and Space Engineering cover a wide spectrum of topics related to scientific investigations and industrial applications in aerospace engineering.
Research projects are funded both by public agencies (such as the Italian Ministry of Education and Research (MIUR), the National Research Centre (CNR), the National Agency for Atomic Energy (ENEA), the Italian Space Agency (ASI), the Italian Centre for Aerospace Research (CIRA), the European Space Agency (ESA)) and by Italian and foreign companies that operate in the aerospace and automotive sectors. Financial support originates from projects funded by the European Union. Various researcher affiliated to the Department receive appreciation at international level and cover prominent roles in national and international scientific associations. The faculty of the Department of Aeronautical and Space Engineering maintains scientific relationships with many institutions in the planet. Among the universities, we can cite Stanford University, University of Minnesota, University of Washington, Virginia Tech, Georgia Tech, University of Dayton, University of New Orleans, University of Stuttgart, TU-Muenchen, RWTH-Aachen, HTW-Dresden, Ecole Centrale de Lyon, Imperial College of London, University of Glasgow, Hong Kong Polytechnic University, University of Sidney. Among the international research centres we have contacts with NASA and AFOSR in the USA, INRIA in France, UMIST in the UK and ESA in Europe. These are relationships that in some cases include students and faculty exchanges.
Through research contracts, the Department cooperates with various companies in the aerospace and automotive sectors, such as Alenia Aeronautica, Thales Alenia Space, Avio, Centro Ricerche FIAT, IVECO, AgustaWestland, Airbus, EADS.
